Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA

Kuala Lumpur, (or K.L. as it's affectionately known by those who live there), is a magnificent, sprawling, 21st century city in Malaysia, home to what is still (but only just!) the world’s tallest buildings, the Petronas Towers. It's also home to Sacha, one of the leading characters in Sundowners and it's here that Nathalie comes to get her fledgling business off the ground...

Extract from sundowners:

Three hours later, they were sitting drinking something called tea-tarée... a kind of sweet, milky tea... at a junction on the outskirts of K.L. It was almost two in the morning and the place was full.
'Everyone comes here for tea-tarée,' Sacha explained. 'It's what we do before we go out... to a club or whatever... and it's what we do when we come back. You come back here at five and it'll still be packed.' Nathalie was entranced. She loved K.L. It was so vibrant, so optimistic. The people were friendly and charming and outgoing... She’d never been in a country where so many people were 'in business'. The whole country was on the move. Everyone was striking a deal, making a contact, signing a contract... it was astounding. The country was building itself up, slowly but surely... everyone was part of it. To Nathalie, coming from Britain, it was magical.
